A complete list of user agents used by JetOctopus

Security is important to all websites. For JetOctopus, the security of your data is also in the first place. Therefore, we want to tell you which user agents JetOctopus uses when scanning your website. DevOps or website administrators will also need this information so they don’t block the JetOctopus crawler. We emphasize that JetOctopus is absolutely safe, your data will always remain only between us and you.

The user agent that you will see in the logs depends on which user agent is selected during the crawl configuration. There are 5 user agents in total:

  • Desktop Browsers;
  • Mobile Browsers;
  • Googlebot Desktop;
  • Googlebot Mobile;
  • JetOctopus Bot.

What user agent for crawling should I select?

For most websites, it doesn’t matter. While JetOctopus generally treats all user agents equally, there are specific scenarios where selection matters:

  • Websites which have Server Side Rendering (SSR) only for Googlebots.
  • Sites with language or location-based redirections for users but not for Googlebots.
  • Variations in website rendering for mobile devices.

Pay attention to the fact that if your website has a firewall or uses Cloudflare, crawling using the Googlebot user agent may be automatically blocked. How to prevent this, read in the article: How to crawl websites using Cloudflare with the Googlebot user-agent.

In addition to user agents, you can add IP addresses used by JetOctopus during crawling to the white list.
